Technical notes
A finishing line changes what a nonwoven can do. Foam coating adds hand, opacity and a printable surface. Extrusion coating lays a molten polymer film onto the web for a waterproof barrier. Lamination bonds two or more layers, such as a spunbond and a film, into one composite. Wide-width hot-melt welding joins panels without stitching.
These processes are combined to specification. A sun-shade fabric might need a foam coating for opacity and a lamination for dimensional stability; a roofing underlay needs a breathable film on a strong spunbond carrier; an automotive cover needs a soft face laminated to a waterproof back.
