Technical notes

Nonwovens have moved into printing and packaging from two directions at once. From one side they replace paper and film where the pack has to survive handling, breathe, or look like a textile. From the other they replace woven fabric where the cost and the converting speed of a nonwoven win. The range runs from a courier pouch to a wall of display signage, and the fabrics behind it are the same ones used in apparel and technical markets, finished differently.

Hydroentangled microfilament fabric is the workhorse for high-quality printed work. Its surface is smooth and scratch-free, which is why it is specified to wrap delicate screens and finished components that must arrive unmarked. It is compatible with digital, template and roller printing, so vibrant images and sharp text hold on it without a coating step in most cases. It is breathable, which matters for anything packed with residual moisture or needing ventilation in transit. And as a single-polymer-family nonwoven it is recyclable, with generally lower resource use in production than the laminated alternatives it replaces.

Cloth labels are the highest-volume printed application. In fashion and apparel a label carries brand identity, care instructions and material composition, and it has to stay legible through the garment's washing life without abrading the wearer's neck. Textile manufacturers and handmade goods producers use the same substrate to communicate product detail. The requirement is a fabric that takes fine print, cuts cleanly without fraying, and stitches into a garment on standard equipment.

Bags cover the widest span of end uses. Retail outlets use nonwoven carrier bags that combine practical strength with a printable face, so the bag does brand work after the purchase. Promotional events and the tourism and hospitality industry use the same bags for reach. Garment bags protect clothing in transport and storage for retail and fashion customers, where the fabric needs to be breathable so garments do not develop odour or mildew in a warehouse. Courier pouches need tear strength and a surface that takes a shipping label.

Large format printing is the display end of the business. Advertising and marketing agencies and retailers print signage on nonwoven substrates because the material handles wide-format equipment, hangs flat, and does not crease permanently the way paper does. At events and trade shows the same fabric builds engaging displays and booth decor that pack down and travel. Patio covers and heavy shade fabric extend this into home improvement, construction and hospitality, where the printed fabric has to survive outdoors.

Technical packing is the most demanding use. Electronics, automotive and medical equipment manufacturers need packaging that is scratch-free against a finished surface and breathable enough to prevent moisture buildup around the component. A coated or laminated construction adds a moisture barrier or a stiffened back where the pack needs it. We manufacture printing and packaging fabrics to order in the construction, basis weight, width, colour and finish your converting line requires, quoted delivered by the container.
